-D'OH!!-
Thanks so much. It -never- ceases to amaze me how I -still- sometimes
don't think through all (directory and file) permissions consequences
even after more than a dozen years since converting virtually everything
over to Linux and other *nix flavors. [ Here I had just increased
access security -- so I could quickly surmise permissions were likely
the problem, but I -really- didn't "see" folder execute (off) as the
logical reason for the breakage. ]

That handy link you referenced is also a great reminder to take better
advantage of the "sticky bit." I think many of us can forget the
(strong!) utility of that at our peril! I certainly know I can take
better advantage.

*Thanks again!*

I help administer various Squeezeboxes
(mostly Classic / SB3, Touch and an ever greater number of 'SqueezeLite'
devices)
These clients typically run against LMS 7.9x on LinuxMint 20.x or Ubuntu
20.04.x
Open Source 'Squeezer'
(https://f-droid.org/en/packages/uk.org.ngo.squeezer/) from F-Droid
serves as a remote control for most of these installations.
