This may be nothing and a quirk of my old, attention seeking windows netbook. It might have heard the rumour that it's getting retired in January and replaced by a Pi.
I am on the nightly branch and upgraded to the latest version this morning. It was really no big deal to manually restart it but I didn't know if this was a) a feature b) a defect c) a quirk of my old windows environment.
