My suggestion was not about you changing the way that you use things in general - but to see if LMS is able to access the folders via the information that is held in the library database (assuming you have scanned the files and they have useable tags). If LMS can play the files via this music library route on reboot and then can still do it when it is failing when you navigate by folder then it might help in the diagnosis.
