OK, I at least have a clue to what is/was happening. When I looked into the server.log.0 file I found a lot of lines relating to one of my plugins: the DenonAVR control. Looking into the advanced settings in LMS I discovered that logging for that was set to "Debug." Not sure how that happened, but I set it back to "Error", saved changes, deleted the server.log.0 file again, and restarted the LMS. Now there is no "server.log.0" file at all even with the server running.
