thanks @bpa. This is very useful. I mostly wanted to eliminate something obvious about the player or the LMS server as a problem. I'm 99.9% sure that's true now (with your help). So my focus will be on the network. It's not other users, or other programs downloading/uploading (as this happens when I'm home alone with no other computers connected, and me on laptop just doing mostly local stuff). I've checked all modem connections, etc. (all in a cabinet and not accessible to pets, and cooled with fan by the way). So next step will be replacing a few key ethernet cables and eventually maybe even my switches.
the good news is that in 20 hours of playing yesterday, this rebuffering only happened once. (I started this investigation last week when it was happening every 5 - 10 minutes one morning.....I suspect now that was a problem with my ISP.
