Just because it is an industry standard doesn't mean it is good or that it works well or even properly. The router section of UPNP for plug'n'play operation resulted in big security holes. There is a very small pool of LMS developers. AFAICT the current implementation meets the original users requirements. Why waste time re-developing something, which works well enough, when there are so many other thing to do.
