Assuming that the "mkdir" failed because the directory already existed ... then ... that should have worked. However, LMS might be showing the version number from a previous installation because it did not manage the install that you made (I do not remember if it opens up the plugin install.xml to find it when you list the plugins).
But ... the version that you wanted to install is the one that I am running here and I did not install it by hand. I simply added Philippe's dev repository link to my LMS plugins page (at the bottom) and then LMS offered me that version instead of the released version. That is the usual way to do it. Do you have a special reason to want to install by hand?
