For best results you should install firmware 64 which is part of 6.5, or you can press and hold brightness on SN to get the update. Lower firmware would not cause the problem you're seeing though.
SN is doing much better as of a few hours ago, so you shouldn't see any lockup problems like that, even with 280ms of lag.
