Andy-- I may have confused a correlation with a cause, but I do think there's something here. Please bear with me.
It's POSSIBLE that Rhapsody was just having problems with its Channel-streaming component this morning. But I was led to think there was a link to Squeezebox by this thread that I started at the Rhapsody forum, where I found someone having the exact same symptoms with a Sonos player: http://real.lithium.com/real/board/message?board.id=InstallingRhapsody&message.id=18002&jump=true#M18002 I started there because I think this is probably more of a Rhapsody issue than a Squeezebox issue; my post here was intended more for informational purposes. But I know you really take this stuff seriously, so here are some of the exact details of what happened: 1) I listened to a custom Rhapsody Channel on my Squeezebox via Squeezenetwork this morning around 9:00 AM ET. After listening for 45 minutes or so, I simply hit the red off button on my Squeezebox remote, and left the room. 2) Roughly an hour later, I fired up Rhapsody 4.0 on my PC. This PC is elsewhere in the house, and is also the PC on which SlimServer resides. I tried to play several different Rhapsody Channels on my PC (using the Rhapsody 4.0 software), but nothing would happen; no error codes, no crashes -- just no playing of anything. All other Rhapsody 4.0 capabilities were fine; I could play local tracks, and could stream-play specific albums from the Music Guide. 3) Thinking I had a problem with Rhapsody, I checked for updates, found one, downloaded it, installed it. But the problem remained. I still couldn't play Rhapsody Channels on the PC software. 4) I posted my problem on Rhapsody's forum, and was led to believe there may be a conflict (at Rhapsody) with Squeezebox concerning Channels only, based on this other user's experience with Sonos players. He found that recent playing of Rhapsody Channels on Sonos effectively locked him out of Rhapsody Channels on Rhapsody 4.0 for about four hours. 5) That's when I tried the "Log Out" thing mentioned in my first post here. Since I was able to play Rhapsody Channels right after that, I attributed my success to the Log Out (which you've now dismissed as improbable, and I respect that). 6) So: Just for grins, having been playing Rhapsody Channels on my PC for a few hours (it's now about 2 PM), I logged out of Rhapsody 4.0, and ran upstairs to my Squeezebox. I tried to start playing a Rhapsody Channel there. Though the channels were properly listed (including my custom channels), after I hit the Play button while a custom Channel was displayed, nothing happened until I finally got a Could Not Communicate with Rhapsody message on the Squeezebox. Tried it again; same answer. 7) So: I backed up on the Squeezebox to My Library, and selected an album to play from Rhapsody. That played fine. So then I went back to Rhapsody Channels, and now the selected Channel played fine. 8) I hit the red off button on my Squeezebox; came back downstairs. And now my Rhapsody Channels are playing OK on my PC too. So... Somewhere in there, it still seems like there's something gumming up the works with Rhapsody Channels, but not with albums, playlists, etc. But I'm afraid that's all I can tell you for now. If that's not enough to help you, I'll understand. BTW: I'm a very, very happy user of Squeezebox. I've had it about two weeks now, and I'm truly pleased with it. This is the first meaningful glitch I've hit (if it is one...).
