You don,t need wireless at all, no not needed if you get SB3's or transporters they have infrared remotes.
However the new controller remote is using wifi. But the new Squezebox reciever can act as acess point for the remote. No extra hardware needed. You can have a setupp that needs a separate ap if you have only SB's or tranporters and realy wants to use the new remote. In the beggining you could get the SB3 without the wifi card,not anymore.
