Well its fixed, so many many thanks for all your help.

Looks like the issue was a rogue DNS entry.

This is what I did ...

I don't know how to obtain old versions of Squeezecenter ( to get back
to an older firmware ) plus I really didn't want to mess with my music
server as I have yet to have an upgrade go well on it, always resulting
in a complete reinstall and reconfigure of the whole interface/plugins
thing. Not what I want from my sole music source these days - it just
needs to work! (sorry gripe over. Oh but please can we have plugins
that autoupdate the same as SC itself? )

So I installed a copy of 7.3 on a different server as this has a newer
firmware.
SB2 connected to new SC and updated its firmware, but that didn't cure
it. same errors.
But the new firmware does give an improved view of things as I found
when looking in Current Settings that 2 DNS servers were listed. In
addition to the one that displays in the networking setup ( my
router/gateway Ip ) it also had an old DNS from my previous ISP.

Another good thing about this firmware is that it has a Factory reset
option in the menu ( so no need to unplug the SB2 etc ). Once the reset
had completed and I'd reentered all the network stuff it all worked!

No idea how the rogue DNS entry got trapped in there, but at least the
7.3 firmware gives you a clue as to what is wrong.

Thanks again

Cheers
Alan
