You can get by with a netbook or similar miniture PC, but that would depend on your storage requirements. If you have normal or large storage requirements you could use something like a Shuttle which doesn't use a cooling fan for the processor and if you utilize the onboard graphics board, no fan for that either. Another thought is eliminate a monitor and keyboard by utilizing desktop remote. That will get rid of the power consumption of the monitor and the PC won't use as much power without a monitor hooked up. You can accesss it with your current PC or laptop when needed. I use a 30GB drive for my OS and SC and then a 500gb drive for my music. Makes backups and defrags easier, but uses a little more power. I backup using a BlacX so that is only being powered when I back up. I only back up after a change to the OS, SC or music and then I only back up the drive I changed, not both. Sometimes you really don't make any changes to one or the other for quite some time. Anyway, the Shuttle has worked well for me for quite some time. It's quiet and cool running, fairly small so it can be tucked out of the way.
