I don't know about the software players, but when using the hardware players you only need to use the random PIN on the first connection to SN. Once connected and registered your player will (should) never have to use the PIN again. When you are connected to SN, or attempting to connect, the PIN will be visible on the player. If you go to your players settings while connected to SN you will see the PIN changes over time. I'm guessing the player gets (or at least requests) a PIN on every connection to SN.
