Hello, after receiving my second Squeezebox, a boom, I tried to configure and operate it. Everything worked fine, WLAN connection and so on.
BUT ... then the unit tried to update its current firmware (17) to 45 via Squeezenetwork. This took some HOURS (!) without any progress. Interrupting a FW update on a brand new unit is a pain .... Restarting update manually worked just until 25 % and then it stopped. The box was inoperable at this time, because it always tried to update its FW. When I deactiviated automatic FW update it tried to make a "software update" when connected to SN. Just not usable yet ! Later at home I finally updated the FW via Squeezecenter. For one hour everything went fine through SN. But later the reaction of the box became very slow. For example it even took 30 s(!!) to get the volume down from 100% (accidently I've tuned 100% cause of the VERY slow reaction) by the button on the front of the boom. Late at night very loud for my neighbours ... As I've seen this very slow performance on SN for some days at - two different Squeezeboxes (classic and boom) - at two different locations - via two different ISPs (Deutsche Telekom and Arcor) - via two different WLAN routers - *ongoing since Sat. 2009-05-02* I have to conclude that the problem is caused by a flaky/busy ? SN server (in Frankfurt/Germany in my case). Via SC everything is pretty fast. @SD/LOGITECH: PLEASE BE SO KIND AND FIX YOUR GERMAN SERVER ! I've bought my second Squeeze box not for returning *both* boxes to the vendor because they became mostlly unusable via SN. And using SN was a part of the prepaid package.
