Thank you for your replies. I forgot to mention that I previously used the ServerPowerControl plug-in. It is a homebuilt ATOM/WinXP NAS so it is pretty easy to install what I need.
To me it seemed that ServerPowerControl only allowed me to switch source if i also hibernated/powered off my server and not just switched music source. This became a bit annoying for other users of the NAS when it suddenly went offline. This may have changed since I last installed ServerPowerControl and I will check it out when I get home from work. With respect to the remote keypress combination, I'm wondering if my Logitech all-in-one remote allows me to perform the combination using just one button. Yet another thing to dig in to when I get home.
