It's not about how hard it is, it's about what Spotify allows you do to
do. I believe they currently don't allow you to re-transmit their stream
in another format, you need to stream directly from Spotify to the
playback device.

If Spotify allowed you to transcode and re-transmit the stream, I'm
sure Logitech would do it and support also the old players. Triode's
third party plugin can do this because he is a third party developer
which Spotify probably just ignores, as a big company Logitech can't do
anything that risks breaking the licensing rules, the risk of getting
into legal battle with Spotify or music industry is just too large.

So if we want support for old devices, it's Spotify or the music
industry that tells Spotify what they can't do, that needs to change.
