It knows because you are accessing Last.fm via MySqueezebox.com
servers, as per Logitech's legal agreement with Last.fm.
It also knows the "software" on the HARDWARE player cannot utilize web
UI's and/or Last.fm's web UI software player as is used on a computer.
How is Last.fm preventing (or soon going to be preventing) all hardware
players (also all running software) like iPhones from accessing non-paid
accounts? I dunno, I'm not a programmer, but they are doing so.

Assuming you could actually come up with a plugin to circumvent
Last.fm's terms for requiring a paid account, Logitech has to be very
careful what plugins it allows to be used within it's server program or
else Logitech could find itself in a rather big law suit involving both
violation of Last.fm's terms and conditions as well as copyright
infringement of the music files being illegally streamed through
Logitech's provided server program.

But, hey, if you want to take a crack at it and submit it to Logitech
for inclusion in the SBS Plugins, have at it. :)
