My alarm has always worked, but I've never had the "now playing" screen go away automatically (have to hit the power button). In my case, I simply make my now playing screen date&time. It's bedside, so I didn't really want scrolling info even at night in bed listening. regarding 15 minutes playing, isn't the time the alarm music plays something you can set under the alarm menu.
