1) my family likes music, and it is convenient to have easy access to our entire CD collection, internet radio, MOG, Rhapsody, Pandora, etc whether we are sitting in the lounge, eating dinner, cooking dinner, working in the study, getting dressed in the morning, hanging out with friends in the backyard (yes, we have a dedicated outdoor system, too), etc. Sure, it's possible to have one system and then crank it so that you can hear it anywhere in the house, but that's not always a winning solution for everyone. Furthermore, it's nice being able to either sync the same stream to different places, or play different streams to what each person wants in that room. 2) I only paid for three of my SBs. The other five were courtesy of the Logitech hardware beta testing program -- although I had to shell out for the amps and speakers to which I connected the SBs.
