He was listening to Pandora on the Squeezebox before you discovered that the Squeezebox was already registered on mysb.com? If I'm not mistaken, using Pandora _requires_ a mysb.com account. In the web interface, go to Settings > mysqueezebox.com and see if there's an email address entered. If so, he's already created the account and probably forgotten about it. If he's forgotten the passworkd, you should be able to reset it at mysb.com using that email address.
