I doubt a Logitech employee said this. I know I've said that I believe
they will AT LEAST keep it running as long as they have devices under
warranty, depending on country this means 1-2 years from the time they
stopped selling them. Which probably means that we have passed year one
and next autumn/winter we will reach year two.
However, in reality, I suspect they are going to try to keep it running
as long as people start complaining immediately when there is an outage,
so it's important to let them know immediately when you notice a problem
with their servers.

In theory this sounds good, in practice I doubt Logitech is going to
support UE Smart Radio any longer than Squeezebox Radio/Touch.
I'm fairly sure there are significantly more Squeezebox Radio devices
out there compared to UE Smart Radio devices.
Finally, there are people working on replacements (see my signature for
one example) and as already mentioned Logitech has done some work in LMS
7.8 (TuneIn support) to make it less dependent on mysqueezebox.com if
you accept to have a computer powered on.
