Yes, LMS acts as a proxy.  LMS does something similar when players are
synced or if the "proxied" option for a player has been chosen

AFAIK - No,  but for https support to work LMS needs libraries, modules
and SSL software to be up to date - IO::Socket::SSL to be at least about
2.06 and openSSL to be at least V1.1
