This will sound crazy - but you're sure that the audio output is now
muted or set very, very low?  I almost never "touch my Touch", using
either the web LMS or a phone app.  But occasionally someone else in the
house picks up the Touch to dust around it etc etc, and it's so easy to
pull down the volume or some such alteration unknowingly - and fairly
recently I spent a while "audio fault chasing" until I realised the very
simple solution!!!!  Turn the volume back up.....
