Do we have a http server available in "make check" which can simulate the 
required replies?

The netcat scripts assumes there is a HTTP server available.

In addition netcat needs to be patched to support half-closed connections 
(as it is in RedHat, maybe others). A unpatched netcat won't do in this 
test.
