Should we handle this during configure ?

Yes, with a --with-libxml2=... option specifying the prefix (/usr/local/ or /mingw/ above), or automatic via pkg-config libxml-2.0 if not specified.

Rigth. I have just still discovered another problem that this change should solve:

The needed libxml2 seems to be at least 2.6.x, but not all platforms have a so updated version, for example:

- On Solaris I have found a 2.4.12 Sun Package in /usr, while the 2.6.16 package from sunfreeware installs in /usr/local, so the build fails, argh !!!
- In Debian Woody there is a 2.4.11 and Sarge should be released at least with a 2.6.11 (Solved using a backport from www.backports.org).

So, specify at the configure time what libxml2 to use will fix all problems.

Regards
