You can use Content Simulation Module (CSM) with Web Polygraph. It lets you benchmark using real content, including HTML. Polygraph has a few knobs to control how embedded links are handled. Polygraph robots can be configured to follow links while they are fetching HTML containers from Polygraph (or real) servers.
