My question is which is the normal procedure about applying such patches? Should I open a bug report about possible bug? I am just applying the patch and you are deciding if it should be applied to squid*-* branches?

Apply it to trunk, and mention in the commit message that it's a bug fix
and also verified as relevant for earlier releases.
OK.

Unless Amos has changed the maintenance model it's easier if you don't
commit on stable branches. The patch will be picked up in the next
maintenance round.
Yes, Amos already inform me about stable branches maintenance.

Filing a bug is also ok, but should then be done before it's committed
on trunk so the bug number can be mentioned in the commit. Otherwise
it's of limited use.
OK, I will try to fill a bug report in the cases where the fix is not trivial or more discussion needed.
Thank you!

Henrik
