FTP directory listing parsing errors?

I've got a user complaining about mis-parsed FTP directory listings. The FTP
server is "Microsoft 4.0" (whatever that means), and if a subdirectory has a
name like "Year 2000 Utilities", Squid will list it as "Year", which will,
of course, fail.

I know that this is probably a MS incompatibility, but does anyone have any
more info about what's happening here?
