SQUID PID

Good Day All

I'm trying to setup Cache-Stats-1.4 to monitor my SQUID 2.1Patch2

I'm getting an error message when it tries to find out what PID squid is
running on.

My question is, how do i setup SQUID to write it's PID no to /var/run
