proxy questions

Hi all.  I'm currently using an older version of squid, and will most
likely upgrade very shortly.

My users now would like to proxy SSL.  How can I do this with squid?
Would I be better off using apache's mod_proxy for this?

I also have another installation I plan to be doing in the next week or
so, but I don't need the caching features, only the proxy features.
Which should I use?

I'm using RH Linux 5.2.
