That your patch program got confused by the diff syntax used in the
patch, and could not find out which file it is supposed to patch.

This is a bug/misfeature of the current version of GNU patch.

enter src/client_side.c manually, and it will continue, or set the
environment variable POSIXLY_CORRECT before running GNU patch.
