Squid and named

Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions on what the optimal setup is
with Squid and named? Is is best to run named on the same box with
squid? Or just on the same network? Are there any modifications that
should be made to squid's DNS cache to reflect whether or not named is
on the same box?
