Probably me.. L1 = cache_dir size * 1024 / L2 / L2 / 8 * 2
or simplified for L2 = 256 (default, recommended) L1 = size / 256 With modern Squids you can go down maybe 40% if you like, but having to many does not hurt except that "squid -z" takes longer to run..
