It has been suggested that our problem is related to 'sticky 
sessions' by which we understand that the initial communication 
is being established between Squid and destination site and 
then the destination site is trying to continue with the local 
PC which being differently identified somehow prevents the link 
and it times out.

(or it could be he other way round - first connection with 
local PC and then with Squid)
Further to our ongoing problem above, I offer the following information which is a summary of a call we had with our ISP:

"Either way the destination site is confused over who it is 
dealing with.

Is a possible solution to convince the destination site it is 
always dealing with Squid (or always with local PC)? Is this to 
do with keeping session open between initiating PC/Squid and 
destination site?

What are the specific settings in squid.conf to allow this?

(it seems unlikely that it is a client PC issue as they work OK 
with other proxy servers through same parent proxy and 
identical settings apart from proxy ip and port)"

Does this mean anything in respect of resoving our problem.
