well its simple. first of all just set your options vice versa i mean kern.maxfiles and kern.maxfilespreproc or the other that you need to recompile your kernal, after recompiling. download your proxy and run it as you are doing first time if you don't want to lose data then don't delete your cache files. after installation specify your cache_dir /your/old/cache/ and set all other required option then run your squid. if you want to make sure then you can rm -rf squid . (if you have cache in different folder) or can rename your folder to make sure that your fresh proxy is running vice versa I will not take responsiblity of any lost. If you format a filesystem with data on; then the only way to preserve those data is making a backup onto another medium and or other disk (for instance). M.
