May be directory integration.. with a lot of control on users using the
proxy. I have tried out Border Manager/Netware5.0 years back (before
deciding in favour of squid). At that time we were looking for a proxy
server, with access control. BM was a more complete fire wall with
proxy/cache as one of its comonents. We did not need all those features
at that time. During the trial period BM performed nearly twice better
than Netscape proxy/winNT4.0 which we were using till then. But when we
tried squid/RedHat7 after BM, it was lightning fast!!

So we chose squid because it was a super performer with all access
controll features that we needed at no cost. The organisation that I
work for was willing to BUY a proxy and was not much interested much in
Linux/free softwares.... times have changed now!

If you are really looking for some specific feature with the proxy,
please check squid / BM docs. It will be a nice idea to try the proxy
out before you make your decision (and let the community know about your
results).

Sunil

Does Novell's Border manager offer anything better than squid.

Or does any commercial solution offer anything that is "useful" which
suid
does not offer ?
