Our network has 5000 users. It ran completely fine on a single Compaq DL360 (Pentium III, 1 GHz) with 512 MB RAM and a 32 GB RAID system. It was fast as hell. The system load was at about 0.5 at peak times. We used RADIUS authentication and ACL with about 200-300 acl entries. IMHO Squid costs hardly any serious resources. However if you start to look at the content (with other software) you'll need lots of CPU power. > I read on squid site that squid does not benefit from > a dual box. What have you guys notice in the field. We have switched to dual Xeon servers but just because we run other content filters on the same proxy. Should not be necessary on your system.
