This now works, using an entry in the proxy machine's hosts file for each one of the web servers behind the proxy. Thanks again.

Now, if I want to run the servers behind the proxy on a different port (not port 80), is there a way to do this?

cache_peer based forwarding (which also eleminates the need for a local host table), or a redirector.

Taking your earlier advice about avoiding redirectors, I'd like to try cache_peer forwarding, but haven't forund anything in the manual about this. The cache_peer settings seem to only deal with managing the relationship of several peer squid installations. Is there also a way to use cache_peer to proxy multiple web servers, with different IP addresses, on a single squid installation?
