Is there a rule or option to reject all usernames containing a whitespace ?
Not unless your authenticator helper has it. Squid doesn't care what is in the login.
Or should I put a special ACL to deny access to those users who put a whitespace by mistake?
acl username_with_spaces proxy_auth_regex [:space:]
The best would be that Squid asks for a username/passwd until it is valid (good pair && no whitespace) so that the end-user doesn't get confused.
Then make sure the authentication helper rejects logins with spaces in them.
Which helper are you using (and wich version of Squid?)
