Hmm.. check your syntax. front-end-https=auto is an option to cache_peer, but the error seems to indicate it is on a line of it's own in your config..
Unfortunately yes. squid -v output:
Squid Cache: Version 3.0-PRE3 configure options: '--enable-ssl'
Using a more recent nightly snapshot may also be worth a try. But beware of lurking bugs here and there.. (many also applies to PRE3 however..)
