squid comes with an own DNS cache, you can look at its contents in
cachemgr.cgi. You can modify its behavior via the configuration file.
You can also use an external DNS resolver, but normally I would not see
the point. If you have slow DNS queries, the problem might also be an
incorrect resolver configuration on the squid machine - internal DNS on
a machine making only external connections or so.
