Yet another question. Is there a way to make it just close the connection
after a idle timeout without asking them to re-authenticate? If it would just
give an error page that would be fine. I would just intruct them to close and
reopen the browser.

I'm afraid there's no easy way to do this. The problem is that if browser
gets some auth credentials, it will keep them until user will manually log
out or close the browser. Maybe with external authentication you could do
that.
