Yep, sure enough. An unfortunate entry in a squidguard expressions file was rendering all media elements URLS as block items. Thanks very much for that pointer.

Are you prehaps using a redirector blocking access to these files? DIRECT/10.0.1.3 says that the URL was fetched from the server with address 10.0.1.3. This does not match the address of the host in the URL so I strongly suspect there is a redirector rewriting the requested URL. Regards Henrik
