I was struggling with this problem a couple of month ago. I am not
sure how I get through. Are you working with Windows? If so you better
get off with msys. You use Cygwin instead. I have one compiled and
running on XP. I never got problem on Linux and FreeBSD. On Windows,
it is 2.6S3, any revision will be working on Linux and FreeBSD.

HI,
Need some help from the group. we are curently on
SQUID 2.5-12.
Does the 'file desc currently in use' means, number of
connections to/from squid? We happened to experience
slowness in accessing the net when the file desc
numbers grows.Does limiting the file desc helps to
improve performance. How do I do that? Which log
should I refer to check whether there is any problem?
Please help. Thank you so much.
File descriptor usage for squid:
Maximum number of file descriptors: 1024
Largest file desc currently in use: 300
Number of file desc currently in use: 248
Files queued for open: 0
Available number of file descriptors: 776
Reserved number of file descriptors: 100
Store Disk files open: 2
