When something in the manual says it has a default setting, eg Configuration Details: Option Name: cache_mem Replaces:Requires: Default Value: cache_mem 256 MB Suggested Config
Does this mean that squid will operate with this value even when the line is commented out in the squid.conf ? It seems there are a lot of settings in the conf that are commented out, does this mean they are not being used or default values are being used?
