I tried that but it didn't help. I happened to find something that worked
though. I added #include  </usr/include/stdio.h> in the following files in
the compat directory:

    assert.cc
    xalloc.cc
    xstring.cc
    xstrerror.cc

I also had to use the --disable-strict-error-checking flag when running the
config script. Now it builds like a charm. Thanks for looking into it though
