Setting up Squidguard

We have run ./configure ok but make terminates with: 
test ! -f /usr/bin/ranlib || /usr/bin/ranlib libdb.a 
cc -o db_archive db_archive.o err.o getlong.o libdb.a 
collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault] 
/usr/bin/ld: bfd assertion fail elflink.h:3360 
make: *** [db_archive] Error 1 

We are running linux madrake 7.1 and BerkeleyDB 2.7.7 
Can you suggest what to do next :-)
