Some of the problem is probably in the details.

Stuff Like:
"What steps did you do to install squidGuard? Compile squid -- compile 
berkeley db compile squidGuard -- then changed the squid redirector to 
use squidGuard with such-and-such line in the squid.conf or whatever. I 
made a squidGuard.conf that looks like such-and-such and used the porn 
domain file that came with the tarball. Then I made sure that squid and 
squidGuard were both running with a ps - ax | grep squid. Then I nmaped 
the machine as well to make sure I could see port 3128 was open. Then 
set up my browser to use that port. I get such and such error in my 
browser when I connect? Any ideas?"

The more detail the better. As far as I know there is no Default 
configuration that will work out of the box. You have to tell 
squid/SquidGuard what to do depending on what you want it to do.
