After creating the db files you'll need to chown them to squid.squid
and chmod them to 640.

If you are running the latest version of squidGuard (1.2) you'll
also need to be using the 3.x (3.2?) version of the Berkeley db (not
the 2.x version).

Someone else here just corrected a very similar problem by moving to
Berkeley db 3.2.
