Well,

Sorry about everyone getting multiple messages. Maybe something is wrong
with the list
server - because I sent one email only. It could be Pegasus Mail (my
mailer) is
retrying the message for some reason too - and sent 5 extras. I went to bed
as soon as
I sent it so I didn't see what it did.

Curiously I did get 3 of each reply sent to me - which makes me think the
listserv/majordomo machine is messing up.

Now my answers to the replies:

1)

No - this is right. I put it into /usr/local/squidGuard/. I think on
Redhat maybe it's
supposed to go into /etc/squidGuard - but I overrode the location. It
shouldn't matter
if I use the -c switch right?

squidGuard.log is empty (I said I looked in it). It does populate with data
when I
manually run squidGuard as in the following line:

/usr/local/bin/squidGuard -c /usr/local/squidGuard/filter.conf < test >
test.out

That makes sense.

I've tried that and I'll see how things work.

squidGuard is NOT writing the log to that /var directory. I overrode the
location of
the log using logdir=...

the test did work however - so I think that's low on my list.

I couldn't install with Berkeley3.3.x - only with 2.2.x. It compiled fine.
I was
searching for archived mails on this list and people said NOT to use the 3.x
version of
the DB. Very confusing. Needs an RPM for we neophites.
